MAGAZINE DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD PT2

Welcome back blog!

Let’s continue to talk about the elements that one encounter as they look at a double page spread. In the previous blog I began to talk about six of them one in the list so in todays I’ll talk about the test.

    Which are as followed:
  • Pull quotes
  • Images
  • Captions
  • Box copy
  • Folio
  • Gutters

In red you’ll see these elements being in used in the template that I created.

Pull quote:

A pull quote is a quote that divides between text. This is used to help the reader focused on the magazine. If one just reads words after words they might lose interesting. Also pull quotes can give insight into the article. Some magazines would use image to further help others would grab a quote from the same article to empathize their purpose.

Images:
A magazine could have one or more pictures in one full spread. The main image has to be the biggest one, this is the one viewers would see as they turn the page. This picture has to have good lighting
, a not too busy background and interesting enough to be the biggest picture. The secondary images are used to support the main image.

Captions:
These are used to provide information about the article or credit of who took the photo. It should describe the image in basic words so that it doesn’t drag attention from the image. These can also include fun facts to give more context.

Folio:
These consists of page number and the magazine name or logo. A folio is usually at the bottom right or left. This help readers navigate through the magazine to find the article they want to read.

Gutters:
This is where the one page begins and another ends. This divides them and should be left without text so that it isn’t disrupted when the page is printed. We don’t want to loose the any information or annoy the readers to try and understand what is in that space.

Learning about double page spread was really interesting, thank you for reader the blog, see you in the next one!
