ANALYZING A DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD PT1

 Hey blog!

Today I’m going to analyze a magazine double lane spread by music spotlight. I previously talked about double page spread so today we are going to look in depth of one. First things first in this blog we’ll talk about: headline, kicker, body text, drop capital and pull quote. So let’s begin.

Headline:
In the page the headline is divided to be seen across both pages. In one side it says “ WALKING” and the other it says “THE LINE”. Which is a similar tittle to the artists album “Fine Line”. This headline is written in all capital letters highlighting that the article would be based on the artists new album. It also is underlined with a yellow line which is similar to the yellow shirt of the artist.

Kicker:
The kicker is written below the headline in blue. This is a smaller font size as it sort of hides in the image. But it still stands out by its bright blue color. This kicker is written across two lines which makes it short and simple to read.

Body text:
This body text has a white color to be able to be seen since the background is completely black. It is written within two column and continues onto the other pages. Each paragraph is being indented to make it easier to read. The paragraphs aren’t too big or packed with information. Instead they are being broken down to ease readers into the article.

Drop capital:
This is the big capital letter in white. This makes the article stand out. The drop cap bring readers in with how different size it is from the rest of the article. It overall makes the reading experience more fun for the audience as it adds something different to the rest of the page.

Pull quote:
The pull quote is written in white which can be a little hard to read since where it is located there’s a lot going on in the background. But it does include a quotation mark Symbol in a solid blue background to make it easier to read and also stand out. The blue is different from the colors of the image which makes it clear to use that there is a quote being written in the page. The name of the person in the quote is also written in the same blue color as the symbol and the kicker, which ties things together.

On the next blog I’ll continue to breakdown with double page spread, that’s all for today’s blog!
