Hello, blog!
Today I’m going to talk about magazine demographics. Understanding who reads magazine is very important for a company to know. They want to appeal to the right audience so that their magazine keeps increasing in income. Let’s see the percentages of how women and men are liking magazines these days.
About 90.4% of adults read magazine media. This is a huge percentage that a few decades ago might’ve seen impossible. It is very impressive to see how widespread magazines have become. In a survey it was found that 84% of women read magazines and 75% of men read at least 1 of 135 magazines that they were shown. This shows at least more than half of both genders read magazines. One interesting fact to mention is that for men’s magazine they are read by 45% of men and 20% of women. And for women’s magazines 71% is by women and 31% is by men. This is intriguing but it’s normal to be curious about what the opposite genders magazines are about.
In 2019 the U.S printed around 43.3 millions magazines. This are big numbers considering the rise digital magazines. No one can deny that physical magazines will be going out of business anytime soon. And supporting that, there is around 33.2 million circulation magazines in the U.S alone. To this day physical magazines still manage to grab a readers attention. It has a large audience still buying physical magazines which might seem impossible with how many things are online and at our disposal. Besides it’s high printing they are also the this most trusted source of information. Around 87% of magazine readers trust what they read on.
I talked about physical magazines but lets dive a little deeper into digital magazines. Well, around 34% of adults read magazines on their mobile devices. This highlights its increase from previous decades but physical copies are still being printed and bought in large amounts. And those who read magazines online sound around 50 minutes a day per month reading these magazines. On the other hand around 70% of women alone prefer reading magazines physically. They enjoyed flipping through pages, seeing everything on paper rather than a screen.
Women are more likely to read magazines about fashion, beauty, fitness, health and entertainment. And contrasting men are more prone to read magazines about science, technology, sports, and cars. But between genders and races the most popular topics are celebrities, health and cooking/food. This topics seem to thrive in magazines. An example of this is “Readers Digest”, which has the highest monthly magazine print audience. It has a total of 19,438,000 printed magazines.
In conclusion, magazines are most liked my women but there is still a large audience of men who like to read magazines.
